This weekend (19th-20th November) I am participating in an open house exhibition with three other local Ballarat artists. The idea harks back to the 1970s: taking art out of the white square box gallery context and placing it in a different environment to extend the meaning of the artworks. During the upheaval of the 70s this initiated the creation of various art movements that deviated from the mainstream, such as land art, performance art, minimalism and various other non-conformist “isms”.
This weekend it is a case of creating a different environment within the intimacy of the suburban house. Artworks will be installed in gardens, window alcoves, coffee tables, kitchen walls, and NO WHITE PLINTHS ALLOWED!! The artwork will include sculpture : ceramic, mixed media and found objects; painting; drawing; and anything else the exhibiting artists deem suitable.
As for me my artwork will be sculptural ceramics, some including mixed media. One artwork, however, contains no ceramic components : see if you can spot which one it is in the following slideshow!!
